Tony Fuckin' Larussa. (I'm pretty sure that's his middle name).
Why would I hate Tony La Russa so much? No, its not his DWI, or his inclusion of this thing on his team. It's something much more visceral than that.
As we all know, the league which wins the all star game gets home field advantage during the World Series. Me, being the all knowing, I know that the home field advantage will be coming to the New York Mets when the NL wins it.
And never did I panic when the NL starts off the 9th down 5-2. They mount a vicious comeback, down 5-2...first a Dimitri Young single. Then a Soriano Home Run. J.J. Hardy walks. Then Orlando Hudson walks. Next, a Derek Lee free pass. They have two choices. Aaron Rowand or Albert Pujols. I'm going to say, regardless of their stats for this year, based on intuition alone, I'm going Pujols 10 times out of 10. We won't even let career numbers/reputation enter into this.
Rowand: .310/.385/.478, 11HR, 43RBI
Pujols: .310/.411/.516, 16HR, 52RBI
(this is a Pujols down year too!!! (supposedly))
Unreal. La Russa was trying to prevent the National League team from getting home field advantage. There's no other logic. Mired in the Cardinals misery, La Russa has used his unjust hand to strike out his anger at his fellow National League-mates. He knows how good Pujols is, he's his damn manager.
Listen, I know he wants as many people to play as possible. There was only one guy left on your bench. He's your own player. He's one of the best people you could ask to have coming off your bench in this situation. Rowand had already hit once. Why would you do this La Russa. Why do you hate the NL so much. I mean, I thought that "This Time it Matters" or something. Shouldn't Bud Selig be seen outside the NL Clubhouse caning LaRussa, tears running down his face, yelling, "Don't you remember what happened 5 years ago!!!"???
Clearly, if they just scored one run, they would be headed to extra innings. But a damn single probably scores two anyway...damn you La Russa. I will forever hate the Cards. And by the transitive property I will forever hate Will Leitch. Anyway, how great was it to see the AL Closers have a near complete meltdown? I'm too tired to do research, but had to be one of Putz worst outings of the season.
P.S. After reading the Deadspin liveblog update of the ASG, I've now heard 5 women verbally, and 2 in a literary manner, declare David Wright to be their future spouse. (ed note: the best was by far the terribly Long Islandy woman at the Mets/Phillies game in early June who yelled, "BABY!!!" every time said Mr. Wright was up to bat)
